Running Sketches

If you look up "parkour tag" in youtube, you get some great reference material for a chase scene.

Post Expo Season

Expo season has come and gone!

MICE was amazing! Great expo, people, former teachers, sales, attendance, B movies watched in the crowded hotel room.  I got to meet some Jesus Loves Lesbians, Too fans!! All A+ times.  And hanging out with my crew is always tops.

Locust Moon in Phili, not so great, but at least I hung out with Nick and we got ice cream, so that helped.  Plus the amazing Andrea Tsurumi took this great pic of me with my wares.  (Thanks Andrea!)

Next stop on the expo train is MoCCA in April! (Hopefully I'll have a camera by then.)

Post SPX 2013

SPX 2013 was pretty great!   Our table was at the end of a small hallway at the end of the back corner, so not the ideal location, we definitely lost some foot traffic.  And Nick and I accidentally ended up sharing our half table with like 4 other people, (one of whom is now our arch enemy), but pretty great expo besides that!

I don't have a camera, but friends took some pics (Thanks guys!) There's actually a great picture of Nick and I wearing sunglasses indoors, but I can't find it online, so here's this one the lovely Caitlin took!

Also! Apparently when you submit your comic for an Ignatz award, even if you don't get to be a nominee, you are automatically considered for the Library of Congress' permanent comics collection!! Jesus Loves Lesbians, Too Volumes One and Two are finding a permanent home in the Library of Congress!
We are pretty excited about it :)

Next Stop, Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE) in Cambridge, MA Sept 28-29th!

Then the Locust Moon Fest in Philadelphia, PA Oct 5th!

Come say hi!

Wish You Were Here

In high school, when several my friends decided to learn guitar, Wish You Were Here was the song they tried to learn first.  I hadn't heard the song since I was a kid and one of my oldest memories came flooding back.

This was my birthday present to my lovely Mom this past Sunday.  I still think of Wish You Were Here as a lullaby from her to me.  Any other children of hippies have this problem? :p

Why I Blame the Elves

This is (I think) my first watercolor comic, and it is for a collaboration Arts&Science Kingdom-wide contest for Amtgard.  Written by Heather-Ann Schaeffner, and illustrated by yours truly.  I need scans of them, but had to finish them at the beach, so the photos will have to do for now.

"Why I Blame the Elves" is the heartwarming story of a faerie wizard who kills a night elf for the ring of power, and when she can't handle the guilt she freaks out and goes barbarian.  True story.

Ink, watercolor, white acrylic paint, and glow in the dark glitter.

Finding old sketches

I am going to attempt to revive the blog a bit! I'd like to say I've been busy but being all over the place is more accurate.  Enjoy some old sketches and new work coming soon!

Misc. arts in color!

I'm still around and making things! Just been busy, hopefully now that the job that ends with the school year coming to an end I'll have some more time to work on art.
Here's a fun doodle that turned into a color study, I love me some limited color palettes.  Especially complementary colors :)

And this is the new self portrait on my brand new business cards (printed on recycled paper <3).  Because nothing says "I'm a professional" then eatin' pizza.

Goin through old stuff

So I recently accidentally deleted everything from my not backed up external hard drive, and I've since been in the long process of recovering data and sorting/organizing my jumbled files.  The slight silver lining of this, is going through fun old stuff I haven't seen in years.

An old sketch of my dad playing banjo, all drawn straight in pen.

An old comic from one of Nick Bertozzi's classes, we were assigned a portion of Winsor McCay's life and had to illustrate it in his style.
Me messing around while designing JLLT vol 1's back cover.  We were awaiting quotes from people to put on the back :p

Coloring Sample Portfolio

Above are my coloring samples, some of my former professors were kind enough to send me some of their inks/lineart/projects to practice on.  Thank you Klaus Janson, Nelson DeCastro, and Marie Javins!

Character/color study

Maybe the main character of a sci-fi comic me and the boyfriend are working on.  We're still  fine-tuning the story, but in the mean time, figured I'd play around with character designs a bit.  Teenagers seem so trendy, trying to tap into some of that :p She also rocks a bike, if you were wondering about the helmet.  She also needs a name and this might not be what she looks like...

Hourly Comic Day -- February 1st

This was my first time doing hourly comic day and it went pretty well! My cute parents were visiting from Maryland this weekend and Friday happened to be their anniversary.

Going throughout your day, especially a day trying to hang with parents who you don't get to see very often, while having to keep part of your brain focused on the time, makes for  a weird day.

Anyway, hope y'all like em! This is 18 hours in the life of some person named Maggie living in Brooklyn.
